Volunteers and donors needed

If you live in Cape Town or its environs and have a yen for the 18th-Century life – military or otherwise – give us a call and put your name down for the Chavonnes Battery Militia.

Be warned: We do not want people who want to be entertained with lectures and films. We need committed volunteers who want to become involved in the activities of the battery, in one way or another, depending on what skills they have to offer and the time at their disposal. We can’t offer them money, but we can promise satisfaction.

What sort of skills? We would like to train up some volunteer guides, re-enactors, people who are generally handy and would get a kick out of, say, cleaning and painting a gun-carriage … We could use a drummer or two, and a piper or two, and we would like to have a couple of trumpeters and a couple of flautists who could play the fife. We would also welcome people who would like to donate or loan items which fit into the museum’s concept, or sponsor something which is close to their hearts.
